![]() There is so much more to Black's music than 'Wonderful Life', superb though that is. Such a coruscating and instantly-memorable (in Black's case, career-defining) hit should not overshadow what is a fine debut album. Katie Melua's version is currently being used in a TV commercial - it's a song that won't die. Black will always be synonymous with the hit single 'Wonderful Life', a profound, deeply resonant and emotive ballad, which features here in its original single version, released on the indie Ugly Man label, as well in the fuller, richer hit single take. Deeply tragic for his family and loved ones of course, but also for music fans - the thought that the prodigiously talented and engaging Black / Colin Vearncombe as a musical talent may well be silenced is a deep loss, when more high-profile talents as diverse as Lemmy, David Bowie and Glenn Frey have passed away in recent weeks. His prognosis is not good reports state that he will 'need a miracle' to recover from his injuries. At the time of writing this review - Monday, January 25th 2016 - Colin Vearncombe - known as 'Black' when he made this album is in an induced coma following a horrendous car accident in Ireland, where he and his family have lived for many years. ![]()
